La grande illusion

La grande illusion (1937)

78La grande illusionDuring the first World War, some French officers become prisoners of war, and they attempt to escape. Though it concerns war and prison escape, the goal of the film is less to thrill than to explore what the war brings out in these characters. It accomplishes this in a way that is consistently compelling, but not especially deep. Life at the POW camp is surprisingly cushy, but those details are actually based on real experiences.
