La Dolce Vita

La Dolce Vita (1960)

La Dolce Vita follows a journalist and his entanglements with women in Rome. The story intentionally meanders, and there is very little plot. Marcello, the main character, seems unable to resist the charms of women, but as he moves from one episode to the next, it’s unclear what the point of it all is. One theme seems to be the contrast between the lives of rich and “regular” folk, painting the upper-class as soulless. Director Federico Fellini’s trademark vivid imagery is present throughout, and there are several potent scenes.
