Thor (2011)

Thor, member of a fantastical race from another realm, is banished to Earth, and a bunch of other stuff happens.

Part of the reason for that vague description is that the plot is pretty convoluted. Thankfully, this movie is not about subtlety; only the broadstrokes need to be understood. This is compelling entertainment, in large part thanks to Chris Hemsworth, who plays the role with vigour, and a manliness that is not only suited to the part, but also rare among the current crop of young actors. Thor’s four best buddies are walking, boring clichés, and Natalie Portman gives an embarrassingly girly performance as Love Interest.
