Bigger Stronger Faster* (2008)

79Powerlifter Chris Bell is not an anabolic steroid user, but his two brothers are. In this eye-opening documentary he examines the performance-enhancing drug from various angles, looking beyond the media’s hysterical approach to the topic. He looks into why people use them, and whether it really is dangerous and/or amoral to do so.

The answers he comes up with provoke thought, and add up to a nicely balanced perspective. The film benefits from the personal approach Bell takes, including his brothers and his parents as interview subjects. If the film has a flaw, it’s that it is derivative in terms of style, owing a lot to the oeuvre of Michael Moore.
