Oldboy

Oldboy (2003)

83A man is imprisoned for 15 years, is not told why, and then is just as mysteriously released. By that point he is a changed man, obsessed with getting revenge, but he comes to realize his tormentor is not done with him.

Operatic, twisty, very stylish mystery keeps you fascinated, though it’s so successful at putting you inside the protagonist’s tortured headspace, that it starts to feel oppressive. Punctuated by violent bits, though much is left to the viewer’s imagination.
